Online Workshop - Practical Science for Conservators VIII: The Art of Py-GC/MS and the Joy of Cooking

If you're not familiar with Pyrolysis-Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (Py-GC/MS), don't worry. Michael Schilling, senior scientist at GCI, will be there to fill you in on the science behind the technique, plus how he and his colleagues at the GCI have been cooking up samples in the lab to investigate everything from Asian lacquers and fossilized amber to plastics in Pop Art.
Practical Science for Conservators is an informal, educational, Zoom series on chemistry and scientific fundamentals as applied to conservation. Our sessions begin with short presentations followed by discussion. The goal is to bridge the gap between scientific fundamentals and practical conservation application. Targeting conservators of all skill and education levels, presentations are delivered in a relaxed, informal environment that's a blend of graduate seminar, office hours, and Friday night get-together.
This free series is open to all conservators, conservation scientists, and conservation students. Zoom will open Friday at 5:00pm PDT (8:00pm EDT; 9:00pm Brazil; 1:00am Western European; 2:00am Central European; 10:00am Saturday Australia; noon New Zealand) with presentations starting at 5:10pm PDT.
